DUBAI // A Lamborghini supercar, believed to be registered in Dubai, has been impounded in London for being driven without a licence, according to London Metropolitan Police.

Although the police do not comment on licence plates, the car has been reported as having a Dubai plate.

The silver Lamborghini Aventador was seized on Brompton Road, central London, last Wednesday. The driver has until August 30 to produce correct documentation, after which the car will be auctioned off. There will also be a £200 fixed penalty notice, £150 recovery fee and a £20 per day storage cost.

Another Lamborghini Aventador was seized on Basil street, Knightsbridge, on August 8. The driver was again penalised for driving without insurance, though nobody was arrested. One YouTube video, posted the same day, shows a purple Aventador being seized - however, this had a Qatari numberplate.

Metropolitan Police said the driver had limited time to produce documentation - or else see his car auctioned off.

A third Aventador, purple with a fluorescent orange trim, was displayed outside New Scotland Yard earlier this summer as a warning against driving uninsured vehicles. Police say they do not plan to do the same with the silver Lamborghini.

All three seizures come under the Met's Operation Cubo crackdown on uninsured vehicles, which has already seized over 10,000 cars since it began in October 2011.
