DUBAI // An investor has been jailed for assaulting and insulting a man from whom he had borrowed Dh200,000.

Egyptian A A, 47, met with O A, 57, from Saudi Arabia, at a restaurant in Al Muraqqabat on April 25 to discuss how he would repay him, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

A A said: “He had lured me into paying him the money to be partner in a project that turned out to be fake, so I was talking to him and asking for my money back.

“During our negotiations, he pulled the receipt that he signed when I handed him the money out of my hand then tore it into pieces.”

A A said O A then hit him on the head, grabbed him by the neck and insulted him, calling him the son of an adulterer.

In court, O A denied the charges but was sentenced to six months in jail. He will be deported after completing his sentence.
