DUBAI // A maid stole several pieces of jewellery from her sponsor, including a gold necklace belonging to a 5-year-old girl, a court heard on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said that among the items stolen by Kenyan FM, 41, were a set of pearl earrings and another pair made of gold, in addition to a diamond ring and the gold necklace.

Her Italian employer, pilot NS, 41, told prosecutors that on April 12 his wife noticed several pieces of jewellery missing from her drawer.

“My wife found the missing jewellery hidden in a small box inside the maid’s room. She waited until I came back from a trip and told me about the theft,” said the pilot.

Police officer AH, 34, told prosecutors that they received a report about the theft in Al Furjan.

“The maid was confused when we talked to her, and told us that she found a gold necklace while cleaning the house and hid it in her bedroom,” he said.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday, the maid confessed to the theft charge, however, she told the presiding judge that she only stole the gold necklace with a pearl that belongs to the family’s 5-year-old daughter.

The next hearing is on June 21.
