DUBAI // An unemployed Emirati who hid almost 35,000 banned pills in a custom-made kandura has been jailed for two years.
The 28-year-old was found guilty of possessing 34,278 Tramadol tablets, of which 33,530 were sewn inside his kandura.
He was also convicted of possessing 229 tablets of procyclidine, which is used to treat Parkinson’s disease and to reduce the side effects of antipsychotic medicines.
The Emirati was caught after being tipped off to police by two other men arrested in Sharjah who told police that they bought the drugs from him.
Dubai Police were alerted about him and he was arrested on June 17 last year.
Prosecutors told the court that the Emirati did not use drugs as his urine sample was clean, but the large quantity of drugs found in his possession was evidence that he was a drug dealer.
He was also fined Dh20,000.
