DUBAI // A businessman was fined Dh1,000 for threatening two men with a meat cleaver when they tried to break up a fight he was involved in.
The attacker, 36, waved the weapon at the pair during the incident in Bur Dubai two years ago, Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The two men, Emiratis aged 37 and 40, had left a mosque after performing prayers when they noticed the defendant and another man in a brawl.
“As I walked closer, I heard one of them threatening everyone around against interfering, then he pulled out a meat cleaver from under his clothes and waved it in the air,” one of the Emiratis said.
The second arrived and tried to help. He said his phone began to ring and he answered it.
“I held my phone to answer and the defendant accused me of making a recording of him, so he snatched my Samsung and smashed it,” the second Emirati said.
When the man was arrested by police he started threatening the two, saying that he would kill them, records stated.
The businessman was found guilty of issuing threats to kill and of damaging property.
