DUBAI // A drunk, jealous maid who was jailed for seven years for trying to stab another maid to death because she stole her boyfriend had her sentence upheld at the Dubai Court of Appeal on Wednesday.
Nepali D P, 28, aided by another person identified in court records as N B, attacked Sri Lankan N S, 32, on April 2 last year.
At Dubai Criminal Court last October the Sri Lankan said at about 5.30pm she was on her way to her home in Silicon Oasis when she saw the Nepali in front of her apartment. D P asked to use the victim’s phone but she refused.
The Nepali then followed her inside the building and sprayed chili pepper in her eyes. “They dragged me by the hair all the way to the lift and took me up to the eighth floor while beating me,” said the victim.
The pair then took her to the exit and D P pulled a knife out from under her clothing and started stabbing the victim repeatedly.
The victim started screaming for help to no avail but managed to flee to her apartment, where she locked herself in and called her sponsor before she fainted. She woke up to find herself surrounded by police and emergency staff.
She told police that she thought D P was drunk, due to her erratic actions.
Police were taken to the seventh-floor apartment by a security guard. Records state that there was blood in the corridor as well as human hair pulled from the victim’s head during the struggle.
Yemeni policeman T A said: “I saw the victim on the floor bleeding heavily, her face and hair were filled with blood. She was also crying very hard.”
The victim told the officer the name of the attacker and where she lived. D P was found inside her apartment with her clothes covered in blood.
She confessed to the policeman that she intended to kill the Sri Lankan maid using a big knife from her kitchen because the victim stole her Pakistani boyfriend.
