DUBAI // A drug dealer who was caught with more than four kilograms of marijuana has been sentenced to life in prison.
The 35-year-old Nigerian was arrested on January 20 this year. He denied a charge of selling drugs when he appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court in April.
Police were tipped off that he was trying to sell marijuana for Dh9,500 per kg.
An undercover officer contacted the Nigerian and arranged to meet him to buy some of the drugs for Dh6,000.
The dealer arrived in a Nissan Patrol and asked the officer to follow him to near a supermarket in Al Muraqqabat. He was arrested after the undercover officer got into his 4x4.
A 40-year-old police major said 4.7kg of marijuana was found his possession. The Nigerian told officers the drugs belonged to him.
He was found guilty of possessing drugs to sell and consuming marijuana and will be deported after serving his jail term.
