DUBAI // A driver who faced charges in court of raping and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl was jailed on Tuesday.

It was unclear in court which of the two charges the man was sentenced for, but he was told he would serve six months in jail before being deported.

The court heard that Pakistani W K, 31, slept in the same room as a woman and her children.

It was said that the teenager confided in school friends that she had been molested and raped by W K for almost a year.

Her friends told their teachers and the matter was reported to police last June.

W K denied both sexual assault and rape charges when he appeared at Dubai Criminal Court last November.

The girl said that two years ago she lived in Karama in one room with her mother, siblings and the defendant. It was not clear in records what the relationship between W K and the family was.

“We all slept on the floor, and one day I was stunned as W K raped me,” said the girl, adding that she was too scared to report the attack.

Later, she said, he raped her again and she resisted.

When they all moved to a house in Al Jafilia, he stopped the abuse, but she said that a few weeks before she confessed to her friends W K had touched her as she slept.
