DUBAI // People can now donate through the Pakistan’s Embassy and Consulate in the UAE to help thousands of people affected by severe flooding in Kashmir.

So far an estimated 460 people have died and nearly a million displaced in the monsoon flood waters in both Indian and Pakistani controlled Kashmir.

The Pakistani government is encouraging people to help provide for relief assistance to those affected.

“To provide relief assistance to flood affectees, a fund titled ‘Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund – 2014’ has been established with immediate effect,” said a statement from the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan has been hit by flooding at the same time each year over the last four years and the money raised will go towards providing shelter and essential supplies to those in need in the country.

The flooding on both sides of the border began last week after the Jhelum river, in Indian Kashmir was swollen by heavy rain.

This led to a surge in the river, which flows to the Pakistan side and then connects into Pakistan’s lower Indus river basin.

To donate cheques or demand drafts should be made out to the “Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund – 2014.”

The donation can then be either submitted in person or dispatched to either the Pakistan Embassy or Pakistan’s Consulate General in Dubai at the following addresses.

Embassy of Pakistan, Plot No. 2, Sector W-59, Diplomatic Enclave, PO Box No: 846, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Phone: 00971-2-4447800-06; Fax: 00971-2-4447172 or email: parepabudhabi@pakistanembassyuae.org

Consulate General of Pakistan, Khalid bin Walid Road, PO Box No: 340, Bur Dubai, Dubai, UAE, Phone: 00971-4-3973600 – 3970412; Fax: 00971-4-397175 or email: parepdub@pakistanconsulate.ae

All mailed donations must be addressed to the Ambassador at the embassy or the Consul General in Dubai.

At the moment donations in kind are not being accepted.
