SHARJAH // Disabled students are exhibiting handmade crafts for sale at an event to showcase their talents.
The exhibit, which is organised by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, began on Wednesday and will continue until May 28 at the Central Souq.
The gallery includes products from various workshops such as carpentry, painting, ceramics, textiles, nutrition and gardening. In addition, handmade accessories, perfumes, and bakhor, or incense, are also on display.
"The event conveys a very important message about people with disabilities: that they have a right to contribute to society's advancements according to their abilities," said Amjad Tawhee, the head of the humanitarian city's vocational rehabilitation and training department.
"We hope this gallery, which concludes the galleries organised throughout the year, will motivate and encourage our students to become more productive and independent, show their innovation and allow the general public to view their products."
He said the activities were a way of increasing the confidence and skills of the students.
"It opens the channels of communication with others and we can also consider it as a form of integration," he said.
