DUBAI // An Armed Forces officer who tried to blackmail a woman into going out with him has been sentenced to three months in prison.
AA, a 28-year-old Emirati, told the woman he would inform her husband she had been involved in a number of affairs with various men if she did not do as he wished. He also sent the woman, a fellow Emirati, text messages claiming he had revealing picture of her that he would make public.
One text message said: "Where are you, why aren't you answering, I have evidence with me, even photos, and I will meet your husband and have him listen to recordings I have taken for you."
The woman said that the officer had previously been married to her best friend and that he was pursuing her as a form of revenge.
The general department of national security confirmed that the officer had made a number of calls to the woman's number.
The Criminal Court found him guilty on charges of making threats and abusing telecommunications services.
