DUBAI // Two men stole more than 215,000 litres of diesel worth Dh703.000, a Dubai court heard this morning.
SF, a 38-year-old Indian transport supervisor, and his compatriot PH, 31, a driver at the same company, told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance they did not steal anything and were simply transporting the fuel to its proper destination.
Prosecutors accused the two of taking the diesel fuel between December 1, 2010, and February 3.
SM, a British executive director at the defendants’ workplace, said
the GPS on PH’s tanker truck showed that he had been delivering fuel to places different from those assigned to him by the company. SM was responsible for supervising the drivers’ work, he added.
“When we first confronted the driver, he denied it, but later confessed to stealing the diesel,” SM testified.
The driver told them SF had ordered him to deliver the diesel in return for Dh50 to Dh150 extra per day, records show.
The two men, who had worked for the company about three years, await a verdict on May 2.
