Three Asian men were arrested for attempting to smuggle about 12 kilograms of heroin into the UAE in two separate operations last month.

Col Eid Thani Hareb, director of the anti-narcotics department at Dubai Police, said the first suspect, M A M N, 35, was arrested in the Hor Al Anz area carrying 8.8kg of heroin.

“The man was hiding the drugs in the trunk of a rental car so that his roommates would not become suspicious,” he said. “The suspect, who was a taxi driver for a private company in Dubai, was in touch with a gang in his home country that tasked him with the mission.”

Meanwhile, two other men carrying 3.2kg of heroin were arrested near Jebel Ali Port.

“Both suspects were transit truck drivers between the UAE and other Gulf countries,” said Col Hareb. “We received information that M K T, 40, was involved in drug activity.”

The suspect was arrested along with his partner, 34-year-old A D.

Police said M K T had a large sum of money on him, and drugs were found in the second suspect’s truck in a secret compartment.

“The two suspects admitted to transporting the drugs as per the instructions of a third individual, who resides in a Gulf country,” Col Hareb said.

The three suspects were transferred to public prosecution.
