Suspect accused of making racial slurs against Emirati police officer in Dubai

The accused has denied the charges

A man has been accused of using racial slurs and insulting a police officer on duty, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.

The incident happened on August 8, when the Emirati lieutenant, 39, was inspecting a warehouse in the Umm Ramool area near Dubai airport.

Judges were told how the Chinese national, 31, threatened the policeman and made comments about his skin colour.

“I was assigned to inspect a warehouse in the Umm Ramool area based on a warrant from prosecutors,” said the officer, from Dubai Police’s Economic Crime Department.

The officer and his colleague met the accused outside the warehouse.

He was infuriated when he was asked to accompany them to the police station.

"When we asked him to come with us to the department, he became furious and started saying he was well connected and can hurt us,” said the officer.

“He kept on screaming insults and threats.”

The accused has denied the charges and the next hearing is on September 29.
