Nursery-worker who bathed baby in boiling water fined Dh1,000

ABU DHABI // The Abu Dhabi Appeals Court today upheld a Dh1,000 fine for a nursery-worker who bathed a 10-month-old child with boiling water.

The woman, from Ethiopia, said she tested the temperature of the bath water before placing the child in it, but that the water coming from the tap suddenly turned hot and burnt the boy.

The appeal court upheld the fine, as well as an order for her deportation, but cleared her of violating residency rules by working for an employer other than her sponsor without written approval. The worker said she had moved to the nursery a week before the accident with her sponsor's approval, but that procedures for shifting her sponsorship had not been finalised.
