DUBAI // A fireman who was having sex with a woman in his car panicked when he heard police sirens and threw her from the car before speeding into oncoming traffic.
The 25-year-old Emirati defendant and his Moroccan companion, 27, were in a parked car near Al Faqaa village on the Dubai-Al Ain Road when police approached. The man drove naked at speeds of more than 200kph in an attempt to get away from police, the court was told.
The woman, who was left alone in a remote area, called police to pick her up.
The woman's lawyer argued his client had been raped, citing evidence of bruising and torn clothes, and dismissed the Emirati man's claim that the sex was consensual and that she agreed to accept Dh3,000 in exchange.
The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours dismissed both the allegation of rape and prostitution and found both guilty of having consensual sex outside wedlock.
They were sentenced to a suspended year in prison today.
The woman will be deported immediately. The man was fined an additional Dh1,000 for reckless driving.
