A man is accused of raping a mentally impaired teenager after offering him Dh10 to get into his car.
The unemployed Pakistani man, 34, allegedly lured the 18-year-old Indian with the offer of money on February 23 and then raped the boy in his car in Dubai.
Prosecutors said the teenager returned to his Al Rashidiya home and told his father what had happened.
The teenager was walking home at about 9pm when he met the defendant, who stepped out of his car and groped the boy from behind, prosecutors allege.
After getting the teenager into his car, the Pakistani undressed him and raped him, prosecutors said.
A 24-year-old Emirati policeman said the teenager and his father came to Al Rashidiya police station at about 11.30pm that night and reported the incident.
“We arrested the suspect two days later at his workplace in one of the courier companies,” said the policeman, adding that the defendant said the teenager asked him for Dh10 - he didn't offer it.
During questioning, the suspect denied the allegations and said that he met the teenager near a supermarket and they chatted for a while before exchanging phone numbers, though nothing sexual took place, according to the officer.
However, the father said his son told him that the accused took him in his car to dark and remote area.
“He told his father that he refused to go with the man at first but then he was lured into the car,” said the policeman.
A medical report detailed that, due to the teenager’s mental condition, he was not aware of his actions and their consequences.
Another medical report stated that DNA taken from his body matched that of the defendant and that there were signs of sexual activity, though not forced.
At Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday morning the defendant denied a rape charge.
The next hearing will be on September 17, when a lawyer for the defendant will be appointed.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.
