DUBAI // A man was spotted by a member of the public as he molested his 9-year-old niece on the back seat of his car, a court heard today.

Prosecutors said MS, a 34-year-old driver from Pakistan, was supposed to be taking the child to play when he stopped in a deserted area near to Dubai Hospital on the evening of June 17 to let her go to the toilet.

The girl said that when she returned to the vehicle her uncle joined her on the back seat before undressing and molesting her. She said this was not the first time he had done so.

MR, 31-year-old Emirati, testified that he noticed a white Nissan Sunny parking between two lorries at about 9.30pm and grew suspicious.

He said that he used his flash light to look inside the car and saw the man lying on top of the naked girl.

He then knocked on the window and the man inside the vehicle opened the door.

"He confessed to molesting her and apologised to me. He asked me not to report him to police," said the Emirati.

A verdict is expected on September 23.
