A man involved an in attempt to smuggle drugs through Dubai, from Oman to Saudi Arabia, will spend seven years in prison.
The UAE's federal anti-narcotics department were tipped off about the smuggle attempt through Dubai by Omani authorities.
On February 2, police from Dubai and Oman obtained a voice recording sent from a man in Pakistan to the accused, giving him instructions on where to pick up the drugs.
"The two were discussing smuggling four kilograms of crystal meth, saying it will be delivered at the China mall in Dubai," said a Dubai police officer.
An undercover officer posed as a smuggler involved in the crime and contacted the accused, from Pakistan, to arrange to pick the drugs up from him.
After three weeks of planning, the undercover officer met the accused to pick up the crystal meth. Police immediately arrested the man and seized the four kilograms of drugs he was carrying. One kilogram was sent to authorities in Saudi Arabia who used it to arrest an accomplice in the Kingdom.
At Dubai Criminal Court, the 34-year-old man was convicted of possessing drugs to sell and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
He was also fined Dh50,000 and will be deported after serving his term.
