DUBAI // Five men were charged this morning with breaking into Al Ras Trading Company, assaulting an accountant and stealing about Dh1 million in cash.

AS, 27, an Indian salesman, and ZA, 28, an Indian sales manager, were charged in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance with criminal complicity for plotting to carry out the alleged crime.

JA, 24, a police officer, was charged with assault and forced robbery along with MA, 33, an Indian salesman. The 32-year-old MR, an Indian visitor, was charged with possessing Dh2,000 in stolen money, records show.

According to court records, JA and MA forced open the door of the accountant's apartment in Naif area on December 21, 2010.

The accountant, SS, testified that JA presented his police ID, slapped him and ordered him to open a safe that contained Dh1m.

Prosecutors said the defendants also stole four labour cards from SS.

Naif Police station arrested the suspects five days after the theft. Records did not show whether the stolen amount was recovered.

The court will reconvene on April 3 to summon JA.
