Dubai tourist 'too drunk' to recall attack on police officers, court hears

A drunken Dubai tourist smashed a bottle over the head of a police officer before headbutting another cop who tried to arrest him, a court was told.

Police had spotted the Saudi man, 23, running away from security guards from a hotel in Al Barsha.

But when they tried to stop him, he hurled abuse at them and struck one of the officers with a bottle of alcohol.

The man was handcuffed but, as he was being placed in a police car, he headbutted the second officer, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The defendant was charged and brought before court, where he told judges he was "too drunk" to recall the alleged attack.

The incident is said to have taken place on August 26 of last year.

Both officers received treatment for minor injuries at Rashid Hospital before lodging an official complaint.

The accused denied charges of assaulting and insulting officers.

A verdict is due on April 30.
