Cop threatened Emirati who invested Dh4m in his company, hears court

Policeman denies threatening a man who lent him money to start a business, Dubai court hears.

DUBAI // An Emirati investor who paid a policeman almost Dh4 million to start a business received threats to his family when he asked to see the proceeds, a court heard today.

Prosecutors told the Criminal Court that EA, 75, agreed to partner the Yemeni policeman MS, 53, but the nature of the business was not specified in records.

The Emirati said he raised Dh3,900,000 from his wife and daughters to pay the policeman so he could start the business. The business proved successful and early on the policeman paid the Emirati Dh600,000 as part of the profits. But there were no further payments.

"Whenever I contacted him in regards of the money issue, he would stall," said the Emirati, who then said he no longer wanted to be a partner and demanded the policeman return the rest of his investment.

The policeman then threatened the Emirati, telling him: "I will show you", and threatening to harm his wife and daughters if they reported him. The Emirati's son testified that in January 2012 the policeman told him he was planning to harm his mother and sisters.

The policeman denied a charge of making threats and the case was adjourned to October 11.
