Two teenagers who knocked out a birthday party host's teeth after he called time on their celebrations have been hit with court fines.

A happy birthday ended in violence when the pair launched an assault on the German entertainer, punching and kicking him after he told them the party at a home in Al Barsha was over.

Dubai Criminal Court was told the victim was found sprawled on the floor, with one of the defendants punching him and the other kicking him on various parts of his body.

The teenagers denied a physical assault charge but were convicted of the crime.

A third defendant, aged 16 and from India, has been referred to Dubai's juvenile court over his alleged role in the assault.

The two defendants, both 18 and from Tunisia and Somalia respectively, became enraged after being told the birthday party of a female friend was over at 1am, the court heard.

The mother of their friend, who had requested that the gathering be brought to a close, said she heard "screams" while in the kitchen.

“I was in the kitchen when I heard screams. I hurried out and saw the victim stretched on the ground while one defendant was punching him and the others rained down kicks on various parts of his body,” the mother said.

The incident happened on April 14. The victim lost two of his upper teeth in the attack.

The defendants said they had acted in self defence after claiming the party host had assaulted their friend.

“I was invited to the party and I came with both my friends, but the German man said that we had to leave at once, so I went to talk to him to ask him for 10 minutes extra,” said the Tunisian defendant to judges.

“I tried to explain but he wouldn't listen and he slapped me then punched my 16-year-old friend on the nose,” said the defendant.

The victim told prosecutors that he was requested by the house owner, a German woman aged 54, who threw a birthday party for her daughter, to notify the guests that it was time to leave.

“I was just informing them of what she said but they beat me up,” he said.

The birthday girl’s mother said in records that she decided to end the party because it was too late already.

The two defendants were each fined Dh2,000.
