DUBAI // A cleaner sneaked into the ladies’ bathroom at a mosque and watched a woman undress, a court heard.

Indian R D, 26, peeked into a stall while G K, 47, from Saudi Arabia was changing on March 11, prosecutors told Dubai Criminal Court.

She said: “I decided to clean myself up in the women’s bathroom. I saw the defendant watering the plants in the mosque and I said ‘Hi’ to him before I entered the ladies’.”

She said she undressed in one of the stalls.

“Suddenly, I smelt a very bad sweat odour in the bathroom and it lasted for few minutes,” she said.

“I didn’t hear any noise, but when I looked up I saw the defendant looking at me from the top of a concrete wall.”

She said she screamed, put on her clothes and ran outside into the women’s section of the mosque.

“When I got out of the bathroom, I saw R D watering the plants as if nothing had happened,” she said.

The cleaner’s manager, Iraqi A S, 38, stated in records that part of his job involved cleaning the women’s bathroom after making sure no one was using it.

“The women’s bathroom is small and the defendant can easily know if it’s empty or not,” the manager said.

The cleaner told police he wanted to clean the bathroom ceiling. “I saw dust on the ceiling and on the suction fan, so I climbed the wall to clean when GK started screaming,” he said.

He pleaded not guilty on Sunday to sexual assault. A verdict is expected on June 16.
