DUBAI // A cleaner stole more than Dh25,000 worth of computers from the company where he works, a court heard.
RK, a 21-year-old Indian national, was charged at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance with stealing the computers on January 23 and 24. A compatriot, SM, 32, a driver for the same company, faces charges of possessing the stolen items, according to court records.
The company, Redington Gulf, an IT products distributor in Jebel Ali, reported the incident after its administrative director found a shortage in the computers at the company's store, according to records.
RS, 41, said in his testimony in court records that after noticing the shortage, he watched the surveillance camera tapes and saw the defendant, RK, taking them one by one. He said they were worth Dh25,592.
RS said he confronted the defendant, who confessed to him but did not tell him where he kept the computers, records show.
During prosecution investigations, RK told prosecutors that he gave the computers to his accomplice, who knew that they were stolen from their employer, according to records.
Prosecutors said that SM confessed during investigations to the possession charges.
A verdict is expected on April 17.
