DUBAI // A Chinese visitor who attacked a policeman who was arresting him for selling drugs was jailed for life at Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday morning.
D S, 30 was arrested on December 29 last year near a hotel in Al Raffa after a tip-off that he was selling crystal meth.
Police lieutenant T M, 34, told the court: “During the arrest he assaulted officer Y A, causing him hand injuries, but we managed to restrain him eventually and take him into custody.”
During interrogations, D S confessed that he was working for a female boss, M S, 50, who collected all the money from his drug sales.
“We found him hiding some of the drugs in his pocket and the remainder in his underwear,” added T M.
The Chinese tourist cooperated with police and arranged a meeting with M S the day after his arrest.
“They met near Al Futtaim mosque in Naif and there we arrested M S,” said the lieutenant.
In records, M S denied knowing anything about the drugs, claiming she only met D S to lend him some money that he asked for.
Both Chinese defendants were charged with possessing 16.3 grams of methamphetamine — also known as crystal meth — to sell.
D S was also charged with resisting police, assaulting a police officer and consuming drugs.
He was convicted of all charges and sentenced to life in jail, to be followed by deportation, and was fined Dh50,000.
The woman was acquitted.
