DUBAI // A collision involving a bus on Emirates Road is among several accidents to cause traffic gridlock in several emirates this morning.
Commuters across Dubai were asked to avoid Emirates Road after the collision near Global Village snarled traffic across six Abu Dhabi-bound lanes.
Traffic officials say one bus passenger was seriously injured and another 20 passengers and the driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, suffered minor injuries in the accident.
It reportedly took place around 7.30am after a car swerved in front of the Camry in the fast lane.
"In the driver's statement he claimed that a car swerved in front of him in the fast lane forcing him to go on the right lane which resulted in a collision with a bus carrying employees to their office," said a Traffic Police spokesman.
"The roads have now been cleared and the highway is moving again," the spokesman said.
Two ambulances and three police cars were sent to the scene.
According to Dubai Traffic Police, another accident this morning slowed traffic along the Pepsi Cola slip road exit on Sheikh Zayed Road. Yet another minor incident delayed traffic on the exit leading towards Nad Al Shiba westwards and Al Safa park eastwards.
Commuters were advised to find alternative routes.
In the capital, reported flooding on the Saadiyat Island highway also delayed traffic.
