DUBAI // A man was killed by his wife’s brother for marrying her against her family’s will, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

Pakistani F K, 34, allegedly killed the man by beating him up and then strangling him with rope at a quiet, sandy area of Al Satwa before fleeing the country.

He was charged with murder in absentia, while his brother, A K, 26, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, which he denies.

Policeman B A, 30, said the victim’s body was found wedged between the front and back seats of a taxi.

The forensic report said he had died from strangulation outside the car before the body was dragged inside.

The victim’s brother, M S, 28, filed a police report after he received a call from his cousin inquiring about the whereabouts of his brother because he had heard that FK was back in Pakistan after killing him.

M S went out to search for his brother without finding him, and went to the police station to file a report, at which point he was informed that his brother’s body had already been found.

Officers tracked down A K, who is a taxi driver and lives near to where the body was found.

It was unclear whether the body was found in A K’s taxi. Police said A K told them that he and his brother decided to kill the man in Pakistan but his brother then killed him here before taking a flight back to Pakistan.

He also said that his family called him to confirm that his brother killed his sister’s husband.

The next hearing is on February 20.
