ABU DHABI // A manager who sent an email scolding his employees for creating an “animal-like mess” has told the Appeals Court that he did not intend to insult anyone.
LG, a Briton, was appealing a Dh5,000 fine followed by deportation, issued to him by the First Instance Court after finding him guilty of verbal insult.
LG was touring the company’s premises when he entered the staff locker room and found it messy and unclean.
“You were repulsed by the mess and you sent them an email saying who acts like that is like animals,” asked chief justice Dr Khairi Al Kabbash.
“Then two of the staff members felt their dignity being hurt so they complained against you.”
His defence attorney argued that LG was describing the place and did not mean to insult them; he wanted to make their behaviour better and did not address anyone in particular.
The plaintiffs subsequently withdrew their accusations.
“We pledge for his acquittal because the pillars of the offence were not fulfilled, and we ask the court to accept the withdrawal of the accusers and rule accordingly.”
A verdict will be announced on October 20.
