Body of boy who fell from window is flown home

AJMAN // The body of a three-year-old Afghan boy who fell to his death from the fourth floor of a building in Ajman was flown to Kabul yesterday to be buried.

Rihan Badashah lost his balance and fell while looking from the window of his parents' flat in the Al Karama area at 8pm on Thursday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Khalifa Hospital.

As police investigators urged parents to take more precautions to stop similar incidents, Rihan's parents have been unable to explain the accident to his brothers.

Asifa Balouch, a relative of the family, said: "His mother cannot believe what happened. She does not doing anything, not even cry. We have not been able to tell his brothers, the oldest son seems to understand but he does not ask and we cannot tell him."

Rihan was the youngest of three boys. The children and their mother have been living in the UAE for the past year, while their father has been living here for 12 years. The family had moved into the apartment only about a month ago.

One of Rihan's uncles said the boy was sitting on the window ledge when "his hand accidentally opened the window".

Major Raed al Zaabi, the head of the criminal investigation section at Al Madina police station, said parents with small children should install screens over large windows and should avoid using furniture that can be easily moved next to a window by children.
