Beau hopes for chance at a Tron reboot

DUBAI // The Hollywood actress Beau Garrett would happily sign up for another film in the Tron series should the current instalment prove a hit.

The California native attended the screening of Tron: Legacy, the follow-up to the 1982 American film Tron, at the seventh Dubai International Film Festival on Saturday.

"I would be honoured to work again with them," Garrett said. "It was a cool experience and such a ride from minute one after getting the part. I hope they make [another] and that I will be a part of it ... I was fascinated by the story but hadn't seen the original and had no idea it would be as big as it is."

In the first Tron, the computer hacker Kevin Flynn was abducted into a virtual world where he had to fight for survival. In Tron: Legacy, Flynn's son, played by Garrett Hedlund, investigates his disappearance. Garrett's character, Gem, is a computer programmer in charge of other "sirons", or informants.

Though the movie incorporates 3D visual effects, Garrett did not believe they overpowered the story line.

"From the get-go you see that it's about a son searching for his father and that's before the visuals come into play," she said. "It's about the search for perfection and our relationship to technology."

Such perfectionism also applied to her wardrobe and makeup: it took almost six hours of preparation every day before she was ready to appear on set.

"Once the costume was on I would have to meditate and accept that I was in that suit for 13 hours," she said.
