AJMAN // Police officers called to the scene of fight were attacked with swords and two of them were almost run over by a car.

Ajman Police’s criminal investigations department has arrested four Emiratis and an Iranian man in connection with the incident, which happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Al Rawda area.

Police had received a report about a fight in the neighbourhood and when they arrived at the scene, they found two Emiratis and one Iranian man armed with swords.

The officers ordered the men to drop their weapons but they refused and resisted arrest, attacking the police using the swords and knives.

Police managed to arrest one 26-year-old man at the scene but the others escaped in a car, attempting to run over two of the police officers in the process.

“Policemen had to shoot to stop the defendants from fleeing,” said Lt Col Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, head of the criminal investigations department. “One man, A S, 25, surrendered, while the Iranian man ran away on foot but he was arrested this morning.

“Two others drove away and were arrested after an ambush of their car near Al Rawda bridge.”

The injured officers were taken to Khalifa Hospital for treatment while a team was set up to track down the men who fled and arrest them.

The five men will be referred to prosecutors to be charged.
