DUBAI // A man who is serving life for murdering his wife and trying to kill himself must complete his sentence, a court has ruled.
Indian S K, 40, choked M K, his wife, and cut her throat, Dubai Court of Appeal heard. He then tried to slit his own throat. S K was charged with premeditated murder and attempted suicide.
The man had problems with his wife’s residency visa but prosecution records said he wanted to kill himself because of his inability to father children. He said he did not want to leave his wife alone so decided to kill her as well.
In January last year he strangled her until she lost consciousness and cut her throat with a knife, before trying to slit his own throat.
Police received a report of a murder in Al Manama and found S K standing in front of his flat in bloodied clothes.
Emirati police captain J R, 47, said: “He told us that when he brought the knife he came back to find the woman awake and trying to catch her breath, but he didn’t give her a chance and slaughtered her.
“He also told us that after killing her he lay down on the bed and tried to slit his own throat but he felt so much pain and when he saw the blood, he freaked out.”
The husband was sentenced in February and will be deported after his life term – a sentence of up to 25 years.
