AJMAN// The Social Police Department at Ajman Police has handled 119 disputes involving families, ex-spouses or neighbours, students in trouble at schools, domestic violence and missing children during the first four months of this year.
Almost all of these cases were resolved amicably for both parties, or in the case of a missing child, the youngster was found safe and well by officers.
Problems that can’t be immediately solved are transferred to a police station or Ajman court’s family guidance unit.
“We can’t be biased to any party. Neutrality and finding solution that satisfies both parties are essential things,” said Capt Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director of Social Police Department at Ajman Police.
“First of all, we deal with any case confidentially. We let the complainant talk freely without any interruption and try to find solutions. If he agrees we try to communicate with the other party and solve the problem between them.”
Disputes are often solved through advice and guidance, but in some cases the accused must pledge not to repeat the problem, such as arguments between spouses.
“We always follow up on cases. After a week or two weeks we communicate with them to see if there is still any problem between parties and if we find the problem is back, we bring them all to the department and try to solve it again.
“The majority of issues are solved and most cases that return are marital problems,” Capt Al Suwaidi said.
“If it happens again, especially problems between spouses involving insistences of the husband not spending money on the family home or beating his wife, we transfer this to a competent authority.”
