Residents and visitors to the capital are to have their pick of 130 new parks by 2017, after the municipality announced plans to introduce more green spaces.

The civic body, Abu Dhabi Municipal System and Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council will work together on the large-scale initiative, which will include landscaping projects.

Sustainable development of green spaces inside cities is a top priority for ADMS, the municipality said.

The municipality will also soon open Mohammed bin Zayed City's first public park, Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National reported.

The Dh8.6 million park is part of a larger plan to open three public parks and 20 children’s playgrounds for residents of MBZ City.
