ABU DHABI // Inspectors have seized almost six tonnes of expired, unregistered and banned pesticides, seeds and fertilisers from farms.

The inspection campaign by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Ministry of Environment and Water and the Department for Economic Development was launched in November for farms across the emirate.

It aimed to make sure that farm owners complied with regulations on the use of pesticides, fertilisers, soil conditioners, seeds and seedlings, as well as educating farmers about these regulations.

Al Ittihad, The National's sister newspaper, reported that 17 inspectors from the three participating entities visited 289 farms, seizing 5.8 tonnes of the illegal goods and issuing 26 warnings, 34 fines and 40 admonitions.

Inspectors also handed out information packs to farm owners.
