A new awareness campaign called Abu Dhabi Emaraty was launched on Saturday to encourage the public to spot waste and eyesores marring the general appearance of the emirate.
The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) in Abu Dhabi launched the campaign in partnership with the Waste Management Center – Abu Dhabi (Tadweer).
“Through this initiative, we are targeting community members in various residential neighbourhoods with the aim of relaying to them concepts relating to the proper disposal of waste,” said Saeed Al Mohairbi, acting director general of Tadweer.
“Such a move will, in turn, contribute to bringing up an educated community aware of the environmental and economic importance of curbing, recycling and sorting out wastes at source, and accordingly transforming them into resources.”

Officials carried out inspection tours across residential districts and streets to identify practices disfiguring the public appearance of Abu Dhabi. The campaign is intended to raise awareness among members of the community about the importance of maintaining a clean living environment, while shunning improper waste disposal.
The campaign also aims to inform the public about the environmental hazards associated with dumping waste in non-designated places.
DMAT calls on the public to call the Municipality Emergencies hotline (993) or Abu Dhabi Government contact Centre (800555) to report violations of the public order, landscape eyesores or any practices that may cause damage to the safety of individuals, properties and public facilities in the emirate.
