ABU DHABI // Seven Chinese men are accused of blackmailing and illegally detaining women.
The hearing at Al Dhafra Criminal Court heard how the gang locked up a group of Chinese women at their place of residence and tried to extort Dh20,000 from one of them.
The men were also charged with resisting arrest during the police raid on their property, reported in Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
Some of the men confessed to the charges brought against them, with the exception of three of the gang who denied blackmail, claiming they were responding to a request for financial aid from the victim.
Three of the gang also denied a charge of forced detention.
The verdicts are expected to be delivered on October 27.
