The Sharjah Police call centre has received 22 reports of beggars in the emirate since the start of Ramadan.

The centre, which was inaugurated on June 9, has handled a total of 3,500 calls from the public to report crime, traffic and policing issues since it opened.

Lieutenant Colonel Jassem bin Hadah, director of the operations department at Sharjah Police, said the centre, which operates under the 901 number for non-emergencies, is available around the clock to respond to calls from the public, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.

The centre also handled 365 calls related to crime and traffic issues since the start of the holy month.
