The UAE is in for a windy and dusty day on Monday, with temperatures hitting 43°C in some areas, the National Centre of Meteorology has said.

Winds of up to 45 kilometres an hour will kick up dust and sand, leading to rough seas in the Arabian Gulf, with waves reaching a height of two metres.

The alert is in force until 2pm on Monday, the NCM said.

The mercury could reach 43°C in the south. However, it is expected to be cooler on the coast, with highs of 37°C in Abu Dhabi and 38°C in Dubai.

On Tuesday, moderate to fresh winds will strengthen at times, especially over the sea, blowing dust and sand, which will reduce visibility at times. Temperatures will fall to the mid-30s on the coast.

The dusty weather is expected to linger to the end of the week, the NCM said.
