Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has ordered a road be named after his mother, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation and Chairwoman of the General Women's Union.

The move was made to show appreciation for Sheikha Fatima’s role in supporting and empowering the nation's women before Emirati Women's Day 2021 on Saturday.

The road selected to honour Sheikha Fatima, who is also President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, leads to Qasr Al Bahar and intersects with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, was there to carry out the renaming ceremony, which was attended by several senior government representatives.

During the event, those in attendance watched a short film about key initiatives Sheikha Fatima has led to drive the advancement of women in the UAE.

Sheikh Khaled said her hard work over several decades directly enhanced the contribution of women to society, both in the Emirates and internationally.

He also said the move was made to honour the woman who was a source of support for Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father.

Sheikh Khaled also expressed his sincere thanks to Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, for his work in assisting on the project.
