The UAE reported 1,520 new coronavirus cases on Saturday.

This brings to 648,702 the number of infections recorded by the country since the pandemic began in January 2020.

Seven people died of Covid-related causes in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,860.

There were 1,468 recoveries, bringing the total number to 626,800.

The Ministry of Health carried out 299,363 tests in the past 24 hours.

Officials announced earlier that more than 15.7 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine had now been administered.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority said three quarters of the UAE population has received at least the first dose, with 65 per cent of residents fully vaccinated.

The UAE is carrying out one of the world’s fastest vaccination programmes to curb the spread of the virus.

Libya's Gold

UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.

The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.

Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
