Adventure specialists XDubai could soon be running out of ideas of how to keep the nation’s thrill-seekers entertained.

First there was a zip line landing at Dubai Mall, then a longer, higher 1 kilometre route was opened at Dubai Marina.

Now the adventure sports company dealing in adrenaline has launched its first slingshot attraction at Kite Beach.

The new ride, opening on Friday, October 26, claims to propel those strapped in at speeds approaching 100kph in just half a second.

XDubai daredevils have been filmed flying through the city skyline wearing wingsuits, and the company has posted online parkour videos of acrobatic stunts.

Those brave enough to give the Kite Beach Slingshot a go can video their experiences with an included GoPro head camera.

“XDubai has had a tremendous year that saw not only the launch of the XLine Dubai Marina but also a host of community events that have inspired people of all ages and backgrounds to defy their limits,” said XDubai’s general manager, Mohammed Javad.

“The new Slingshot — the region’s fastest — is an incredibly thrilling experience that invites people to stretch their limits.”

The XDubai Slingshot will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only, between 9am and 12 noon and 1 and 7pm at Dubai’s Kite Beach from October 26, for a limited time.

Tickets cost Dh280 per person will available on-site on a first-come, first-serve basis with the option to keep your name on the waiting list for the same day.

The five stages of early child’s play

From Dubai-based clinical psychologist Daniella Salazar:

1. Solitary Play: This is where Infants and toddlers start to play on their own without seeming to notice the people around them. This is the beginning of play.

2. Onlooker play: This occurs where the toddler enjoys watching other people play. There doesn’t necessarily need to be any effort to begin play. They are learning how to imitate behaviours from others. This type of play may also appear in children who are more shy and introverted.

3. Parallel Play: This generally starts when children begin playing side-by-side without any interaction. Even though they aren’t physically interacting they are paying attention to each other. This is the beginning of the desire to be with other children.

4. Associative Play: At around age four or five, children become more interested in each other than in toys and begin to interact more. In this stage children start asking questions and talking about the different activities they are engaging in. They realise they have similar goals in play such as building a tower or playing with cars.

5. Social Play: In this stage children are starting to socialise more. They begin to share ideas and follow certain rules in a game. They slowly learn the definition of teamwork. They get to engage in basic social skills and interests begin to lead social interactions.
