DUBAI // A woman who admitted to police she had had sex with a man she did not know has appealed against a two-year sentence prison for prostitution.

Pakistani tourist F K, 27, went to Al Raffa Police Station to declare her guilt but she admitted only to meeting K A, 43, from the Comoros Islands, in a hotel nightclub and that no money was exchanged for sex.

She told criminal and appeal courts that she had consensual sex with K A.

F K denied a prostitution charge but confessed to a charge of consuming alcohol without a licence and having consensual sex with the defendant outside of wedlock. K A admitted consuming alcohol without a licence and having consensual sex with the woman.

Both were convicted with having consensual sex and with consuming alcohol without a licence. On April 30, Dubai Criminal Court sentenced them to a month in jail each for both charges.

F K was also given two years for working as a prostitute.

Court records stated that they met on January 19 and they agreed on a fee of Dh800 for sex.

During interrogations, the unemployed man told prosecutors that he gave Dh500 to the woman and that she then gave it to a friend of hers in the nightclub.

He said the pair then took a taxi to his home in Al Satwa.

No mention of the circumstances of the arrests was made in court, but Yemeni police officer S A, 44, said that the man admitted having sex with the woman and that she left his house afterwards.

A forensic report showed that the Pakistani woman does not have any sexually transmitted disease and that she is not pregnant.

Dubai Court of Appeal reduced F K’s jail term to nine months in total and K A’s to one month, but it upheld deportation against both.
