The Pro League Committee announced both the Arabian Gulf League and the Arabian Gulf Cup schedules for the first half of the 2016/2017 season after a coordination meeting between PLC and UAE FA.
The Cup games begin with Round 1 of the group stage on September 2 and 3 and Round 2 on the following week on September 7 and 8. The sixth and final round of the group stage will be played on December 12 and 13.
The highlight of the opening round is the two derby games between Al Nasr and Al Ahli in Dubai, and the match between Al Jazira and Al Wahda, the defending champions, at the Mohammed bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The Arabian Gulf League campaign kick off with its first round over three days, from September 16 to 18, and Round 2 from September 22 to 24. Round 13 will signal the halfway mark of the AGL season on December 22 and 23.
In the opening round of the league, the highlight is the game between Jazira and Al Wasl while the holders Ahli will be at home to Emirates at the Rashid stadium.
The meeting chaired by Abdulla Naser Al Junaibi, chairman of the PLC, was also attended by Mohammed bin Hazzam, general secretary, and Mahdi Ali, national team coach, both representing the UAE FA.
“The PLC has again made every effort to schedule the fixtures at weekends in order to provide the opportunity for as many fans as possible to attend matches,” said Al Junaibi.
