Trainer Majed Al Jahouri gets boost from 15 new runners

ABU DHABI //The trainer Majed Al Jahouri, who has won both the Group 1 prizes for the Purebred Arabians this season, received a further boost when his string was doubled with 15 new arrivals from his principal patron Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed's breeding and racing operation in France.

Among them is Rabbah De Carrere, the first progeny of the champion Arabian mare Mizzna, whose mother is the legendary Alanudd, the winner of 36 of her 37 races, including the top prizes for the Arabians in the country many times in the silks of the Sheikh Zayed, the late President of the UAE.

"Rabbah De Carrere is not only a sentimental favourite but arrives with a decent record from France," Al Jahouri said. "He has already won a Group 3 prize and placed fifth in a Group 1 race in his two career starts."

The new arrivals have boosted the number of horses in training to 30, including six thoroughbreds. Ghalib is the most experienced and possesses a decent European record.

The only time the five-year-old son of Munjis has finished outside the top three in 11 starts was behind Poulain Kossack in the Group 2 Qatar Cup at Longchamp in France on September 16.

Rabbah De Carrere made a winning debut in the Prix Tidjani, a Group 3 race over 1,900m in France on July 22.

He was fifth in his next start behind Mushrae, another Sheikh Mansour-owned horse, in the Qatar Arabian Trophy, a €100,000 (Dh490,000) Group 1 race for three year olds run over 2,000m at the Saint-Cloud Racecourse near Paris in October. "I would like to think we can get some of them ready at some point this season. That, too, after we discuss the plans with Sheikh Mansour," Al Jahouri said.

The Al Wathba Stables trainer has already won both the Group 1 prizes for the Purebred Arabians - the National Day Cup in Abu Dhabi and the Maktoum Challenge Round 1 at the Meydan Racecourse - with Areem.

He has now earmarked Round 3 as the five-year-old son of Mahabb's next objective before a crack at the Dubai Kahayla Classic on the Dubai World Cup card.

"The 2,000m distance is the maximum for Areem and therefore we have decided to skip Round 2 which is run over 2,200m," Al Jahouri said.

Al Jahouri has four entries for three prizes in the six-race card tonight at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club. The Emirati has Duzar and Laaheq in the second race, El Ghoul in the fourth and Raheq in the concluding conditions race.
