The sporting week began with the finale of the Ashes series in England. The hosts might have won the final Test at The Oval to draw the series, but it was Australia that kept hold of the urn.
Star batsman Steve Smith finished the series with a 774 runs in just seven innings – including an astonishing run of scores – 144 and 142 at Edgbaston, 92 at Lords, 211 and 82 at Old Trafford, and 80 and 23 at the Oval.
Champions League football was also back in action, with mighty Real Madrid taught a footballing lesson as they were beaten 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain. A first-half double from former Real winger Angel Di Maria and a Thomas Meunier strike in injury time saw PSG open their Group A account with a bang.
