MEN

Djokovic stunned by Querrey

Two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic was sent crashing out by big-serving Sam Querrey, shattering his hopes of securing the first calendar Grand Slam in 47 years.

The world No 1, bidding for a fourth Wimbledon title and 13th major, suffered his earliest loss at a major since the 2009 French Open.

The 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5) defeat, played out after an overnight suspension and two further lengthy rain interruptions, also ended Djokovic’s Open era record run of 30 successive wins at the majors and his streak of having reached 28 consecutive grand slam quarter-finals.

American 28th seed Querrey, the world No 41, goes on to face 34-year-old Frenchman Nicolas Mahut for a place in the quarter-finals.

Raonic powers through

Canadian sixth seed Milos Raonic defeated America’s Jack Sock 7-6 (7/2), 6-4, 7-6 (7/1) to reach the last 16. Raonic, a semi-finalist in 2014, takes on Belgium’s David Goffin for a place in the quarter-finals.

Nishikori to face Cilic

Japan’s Kei Nishikori booked his spot in the last 16 at Wimbledon with a straight sets win over Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov on Saturday.

The fifth seed won 7-5, 6-3, 7-5 on the Court 3 show court. He faces Croatian ninth seed Marin Cilic for a place in the quarter-finals.

Zverev outlasts Youzhny

Teenage tennis starlet Alexander Zverev became the last man through to the third round after a marathon victory over Russian veteran Mikhail Youzhny.

Germany’s Zverev, 19, the youngest player in the top 50, won 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in three hours and 19 minutes on Court 8 in a match that was halted for a final time due to rain on Friday with Zverev 2-1 up in the final set.

Zverev, the 24th seed, last month became the youngest man to enter the top 30 since world No 1 Novak Djokovic back in 2006. World No 28 Zverev faces Czech 10th seed Tomas Berdych in the round of 32.

Cilic overpowers Lacko

Croatian Marin Cilic made short work of Slovak qualifier Lukas Lacko, finishing their rain delayed third round match 6-3 6-3 6-4 with nine aces in the final set.

The 2014 US Open champion had already wrapped up two sets when rain set in on Friday and he was clearly in no mood to mess about on a blustery Court 12. The 6-foot-6 ninth seed pummelled Lacko from both sides of the court, winning 98 per cent of points on his first serve. He clinched with his 19th ace, wrapping up the match in and hour and 49 minutes. Cilic, 27, will next meet fifth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan.

WOMEN

Halep marches on

World No 5 Simona Halep made it through to the fourth round with a straightforward victory over Kiki Bertens on Centre Court, despite a lingering Achilles problem.

The 2014 Wimbledon semi-finalist cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Dutch world No 28, watched by a wealth of British sports stars including members of England’s 1966 football World Cup-winning team. She faces either ninth seed Madison Keys or Alize Cornet in the round of 16 on Monday.

Kvitova crashes out

Two-time champion Petra Kvitova crashed out of Wimbledon on Saturday, losing 7-5, 7-6 (7/5) to Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova in the last second round match to be completed. The Czech, who was champion in 2011 and 2014, committed 43 unforced errors against Makarova, who will face Barbora Strycova for a place in the last 16.

Kerber into last 16

German fourth seed and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber reached the Wimbledon last-16 on Saturday with a 7-6 (13/11), 6-1 win over compatriot Carian Witthoeft. Kerber will face Japan’s Misaki Doi for a place in the quarter-finals.

Radwanska to face Cibulkova

Third seed Agnieszka Radwanska reached the Wimbledon last-16 on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. The 2012 runner-up will face Dominika Cibulkova, the 19th seed from Slovakia, for a place in the quarter-finals.

Tearful appearance

Chancellor Rachel Reeves set markets on edge as she appeared visibly distraught in parliament on Wednesday.

Legislative setbacks for the government have blown a new hole in the budgetary calculations at a time when the deficit is stubbornly large and the economy is struggling to grow.

She appeared with Keir Starmer on Thursday and the pair embraced, but he had failed to give her his backing as she cried a day earlier.

A spokesman said her upset demeanour was due to a personal matter.

Uefa Nations League: How it works

The Uefa Nations League, introduced last year, has reached its final stage, to be played over five days in northern Portugal. The format of its closing tournament is compact, spread over two semi-finals, with the first, Portugal versus Switzerland in Porto on Wednesday evening, and the second, England against the Netherlands, in Guimaraes, on Thursday.

The winners of each semi will then meet at Porto’s Dragao stadium on Sunday, with the losing semi-finalists contesting a third-place play-off in Guimaraes earlier that day.

Qualifying for the final stage was via League A of the inaugural Nations League, in which the top 12 European countries according to Uefa's co-efficient seeding system were divided into four groups, the teams playing each other twice between September and November. Portugal, who finished above Italy and Poland, successfully bid to host the finals.

Common OCD symptoms and how they manifest

Checking: the obsession or thoughts focus on some harm coming from things not being as they should, which usually centre around the theme of safety. For example, the obsession is “the building will burn down”, therefore the compulsion is checking that the oven is switched off.

Contamination: the obsession is focused on the presence of germs, dirt or harmful bacteria and how this will impact the person and/or their loved ones. For example, the obsession is “the floor is dirty; me and my family will get sick and die”, the compulsion is repetitive cleaning.

Orderliness: the obsession is a fear of sitting with uncomfortable feelings, or to prevent harm coming to oneself or others. Objectively there appears to be no logical link between the obsession and compulsion. For example,” I won’t feel right if the jars aren’t lined up” or “harm will come to my family if I don’t line up all the jars”, so the compulsion is therefore lining up the jars.

Intrusive thoughts: the intrusive thought is usually highly distressing and repetitive. Common examples may include thoughts of perpetrating violence towards others, harming others, or questions over one’s character or deeds, usually in conflict with the person’s true values. An example would be: “I think I might hurt my family”, which in turn leads to the compulsion of avoiding social gatherings.

Hoarding: the intrusive thought is the overvaluing of objects or possessions, while the compulsion is stashing or hoarding these items and refusing to let them go. For example, “this newspaper may come in useful one day”, therefore, the compulsion is hoarding newspapers instead of discarding them the next day.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood

Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.
