Sunrisers Hyderabad chase down target with ease to defeat Bangalore

BANGALORE 166 all out in 19.5 overs

HYDERABAD 172-2 in 17.2 overs

Bangalore - AB de Villiers 46, Virat Kohli 41; Trent Boult 3-36

Hyderabad - David Warner 57 not out, Shikhar Dhawan 50; Yuzvendra Chahal 2-28

Half-centuries from David Warner, pictured, and Shikhar Dhawan laid the platform for Sunrisers Hyderabad to cruise to a target of 167 and pick up their first win of the season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore would have known their total was never going to be good enough to test Hyderabad on a flat pitch.

Having been sent in, Bangalore were 93 for 2 in the 12th over of their innings, with Virat Kohli batting on 41, when two wickets in two balls from Ravi Bopara precipitated a slide that saw them lose their last eight wickets for 73 runs.

A poor start from their seamers only made Bangalore’s task harder. By the end of the second over, Warner and Dhawan had six fours and a six, against Sean Abbott and Harshal Patel and Sunrisers had shaved 36 runs off their target. That set the tone for the rest of the match and the Sunrisers eased home with 16 balls remaining. Bangalore also had the anxiety of watching AB de Villiers hobble off the field with a twisted ankle.

Quotes of the day

"We were just not good enough with the ball. Maybe 20 runs short with the bat. The guys were off the button today. Hopefully, we can pull our socks up and come back stronger. We have a lot of freebies. I think the bowlers themselves will know that they were not good enough. With the bat we got close to 170, maybe it was a 180-185 wicket. We will have to improve with the ball. I guess Adam Milne will be fit for the next game and Starc will be coming in to boost the attack. As long as the boys are willing to improve, its all good." – Virat Kohli, Bangalore captain

"What a performance from the bowlers. The ball was swinging and the bowlers did well to pull things back. The spell from Boult and Bhuvi was brilliant. We pride ourselves on fielding, it is 50 per cent of the game. If we get our fielding right, bowling and batting will take care of itself. Credit to the bowlers, they gave us a nice total to chase. I played with freedom and it was a great knock from Dhawan. We are in a good place now and ready for our home games." – David Warner, Hyderabad captain and man of the match
