It took what the manager himself admitted was 'a little lucky' by way of a late Sunderland own goal, but Pep Guardiola took away three points in his Premier League debut at the helm of Manchester City.

The 2-1 win by City was the nightcap of a seven-fixture opening day for the Premier League season, the highlight of which had to be from the very first match. Defending champions Leicester City were shocked in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Hull City. Robert Snodgrass scored in the 57th minute, and the club just last season that were in the Champions League earned an important early three points to help assure they stay up this season.

In other action, Tottenham and Southampton each scored late to ensure draws, while Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion earned victories.
